I've been telling my kids for years that Halloween is the day I get to take my mom costume off. I've developed quite the collection of witch hats, so I try to put them to good use.

I did this chalkboard years ago, and it was still hanging around in the basement... Seemed like the perfect compliment for black pumpkins and almost dead dahlias.

I loved the way these deep purple dahlias dried... I had them lying around the house in various states of decay for weeks.

I could not resist the curl of these petals!

These creamy colored dahlias are some of my favorites... I think this one is the Cafe Au Lait, though I'm not sure. I'm already looking forward to a trip to the dahlia farm again next summer.

This time of year is good for early(ish) morning shots in the backyard... The sun hits my neighbor's fence just right.

I didn't buy a single "ordinary" pumpkin this year. This one is a fun mustardy yellow color with lots of bumps.

Years ago, I started taking a self portrait each year on my birthday. I wasn't particularly feeling it this year, but I did it anyway, and I'm glad I did.

This year I participated in a 31 days of Lensbaby challenge on Instagram during the month of October, and it inspired me to find more spooky-ish images to share. This is a shot from the boardwalk in OCNJ. This alien is a permanent feature, but I thought it had a bit of a spooky vibe.

This guy always makes me chuckle... Doesn't it look like he's just hanging out, telling a funny story? I'd love to know what he's saying.

Always have to take advantage of the available light... and, while a bit unusual, I couldn't resist the rim light that these headlights created while we were out for an evening stroll to look at Halloween lights.

It's been a while since I shot many Converse photos. Had to get a quick double while I was hanging out at the Halloween parade waiting for things to get started.

I'm going to be honest... I wait all year waiting for shots at the Halloween parade because I cannot get enough of the fun lighting with all of the fire trucks with their lights blazing.

We all know I cannot resist a good double when there are fun lights to play with. I really need to get out and shoot in the dark more often!
