It's that time of year when the light starts to feel different. Do you know what I mean? There's just something about the warm late summer light and the slightly earlier sunsets that makes me super happy.

My sunflowers are finally blooming, as well. I planted TONS of them this year, and only a few came up. Weirdly, they are almost all yellow, even though I planted lots that I thought were red and orange. I'm baffled by this, but they are still pretty!

Sometimes I am just shooting to capture the light and colors around me. Focus is entirely overrated.

I've dropped the ball a bit when it comes to my monthly self portraits... But, I was inspired to play a bit in the garden last week. This one is a double exposure that I actually ended up shooting upside down to get the bokeh at the bottom of the image.

I don't love seeing photos of myself lately... Perhaps that's why I've been neglecting my self portraits. Something about being in my 40s has thrown me for a bit of a loop. But, at least my hair is pink, right?

A quick glimpse at my slice of suburbia. I love how the CFE always makes it look like you're peeking through a peep hole or something.

It's never fun when kids get sick... But sick kids in the summer always feels like insult to injury. So, instead of going to the pool last week, we were playing Scrabble.

Pretty sure the days are numbered for the play set. There may or may not be a family of squirrels living in there. This image makes me feel a bit nostalgic, a bit sad, and also a bit hopeful. It's hard to explain.

If anyone reading this is an expert on weather and sunsets, we need to talk. Can you please explain to me how to predict a good sunset? My track record is TERRIBLE, and I'm always catching nights where a nice blanket of clouds rolls in to block any decent sunset. Seriously.

Sunset or no sunset, I do love a dramatic sky... And I'm always happy to play around with a double exposure. So, I suppose all is not lost.

One of the rare non-yellow sunflowers in my garden. I think it's the only one, actually.

Another yellow sunflower... But those water droplets!

While we are on the topic of yellow flowers that are supposed to be other colors, this is supposed to be a lime green marigold. Make it make sense.

It's been the summer of baseball around here... My youngest lives and breathes baseball. So, naturally, he was super cooperative when I asked him to stand still for a few seconds while I shot this image.
