Storytelling: Layering
This week, we're moving on from black and white images to storytelling. The next few weeks will be focused on different elements of storytelling within an image. This week, the focus is layering. Layering refers to utilizing elements of the foreground, middle, and background in an image.
I'd love to say that I went out shooting with layering in mind this week... But, I actually completely forgot to check the P52 prompt. Fortunately, I went for a walk with a friend in Lancaster, PA, and did some street shooting.
This particular image just happens to be an OK example of layering. This woman was wiping the windows of a shop before opening in the morning. The surrounding shops and buildings are a bit blurred (I was shooting the Edge 35mm with a pretty wide open aperture), but help to frame the scene and give you a sense of the city location. Through the open doorway and windows, you can just barely catch a glimpse of the inside of the shop in the background. I do wish there was a bit more to the background here, but alas, this is the shot I have.

Shot with Lensbaby Edge 35mm.
