Black and White: Scene
We're still in the black and white portion of the Project 52 challenges... and this week's challenge was to capture a scene in black and white.
Admittedly, I got a bit caught up on the meaning of the word scene, and after extensive internet searching, I came to no conclusion or formal definition. Some people define a "scene" as any spot you choose to make photographs in. Others say it's a specific location or moment that a photographer chooses to capture. One site mentioned that a scene has to be a compilation of several shots.
If I'm entirely honest, I struggle with definitions and wording in these situations. I was a math and computer science major, and I'm good with algorithms and technical stuff, but when we get into wordy definitions, I start to feel like the spinning beachball on my MacBook (all of you who use Photoshop or Lightroom know exactly what I'm talking about). I was so frustrated trying to define what a scene was that I didn't shoot anything until Friday. It didn't help that half of my family was sick this week and it was super cold outside.
By Friday, I just decided I would treat a "scene" like documentary photography, which is something I typically like and have a better sense of. So, I put on my best documentary storytelling hat and grabbed my camera. I did like the idea that you could use a variety of angles and different shots to portray a scene, so that's what I did.
