Welcome!
If you’re reading this, I’m so glad we have connected, and I’m glad you’re here. Truly. Along with many others, I am navigating 2025 to the best of my ability. Who knew it would be this crazy, right? And, while I certainly don’t have many answers (any answers??), I feel pretty strongly about leaning into community.
But, online community is no longer what it used to be, at least not for me. As I’ve pulled back from social media apps that I struggle to support (I don’t need to name names, right?), I’ve decided it’s time to focus more on creating and hosting my own content. I decided it’s time for a blog. The dreaded B word. I don’t even like to utter the word, and here I am writing one again.
Long story short. I started a food blog in 2009. It was a blast, I loved it. I was early enough in food blogging history that I got to do cool stuff, meet cool people, and had some mild success. Social media and SEO happened and I loved it less. Much less. I had two kids, stopped blogging about 10 years ago, and haven’t really looked back.
But, after years of sharing my photography on other platforms that I did not own or control, it’s time to take the power back, so to speak. I’m reminded of my high school economics professor reminded us (repeatedly) that there’s no such thing as a free lunch. The same thing goes for social media. There’s no such thing as a truly free platform, and in the end, if you’re not paying, you’re at the mercy of the people who do. And, when it comes to investing my time and creativity, I’m no longer interested in investing in companies and people that I do not support. I am in a (privileged) position to host my own website/blog and be in control of my content. So, that’s what I’m going to do. We’re taking it back to 2009.
